Loop pile carpet
Cut pile carpet
Cut & Loop carpet
Loop pile carpets are distinguished by a loop pile construction often with a colour fleck running through, but can also be plain.
The Berber range is included in this type of carpet. They are relatively cheap and durable for areas with significantly heavy use.
The loops can be vulnerable to pulling from pets claws.
The best-selling type of carpet is cut pile. Cutting looped carpet fibres at the top creates cut pile with yarn bundles standing straight.
Cut pile is less resistant to crushing than other types of carpet. Ranges include Saxony and Twist.
- Saxony carpets have a long luxurious pile. These carpets show every footprint and vacuum-cleaner marks, and are often favoured for use in bedrooms and living rooms.
- Twist carpets are one of the most popular types of carpets. They have a versatile finish that is extremely hard wearing and less likely to show footprints or vacuum marks. Twist carpets mainly come in plain colours and have a mottled textured appearance. Suitable for use in high traffic areas.
Cut and Loop
These carpets combine fibres that have been cut with ones that have been looped. This provides great scope for creating surface textures and patterns in both solid and multiple colours.
The multi-level finish is excellent for hiding footprints and stains making it ideal for high traffic areas.
Woven carpets are amongst the finest most luxury carpets on the market, used for prestigious installations. The traditional method of making these carpets is perfect for patterns – an up and coming trend.
Due to the intensive manufacturing process these carpets are at the higher end in price. Both Axminster and Wilton, amongst others, produce this type of carpet.
- Axminster - A highly durable carpet and luxury finish. This traditional process allows for intricate designs and colours to be used providing great versatility.
- Wilton - The fibres can then be cut to create a range of cut and loop textured effects. Wilton carpets are unrivalled in quality, luxury and durability.
Care for your carpet
Looking after your carpet
When a carpet is first laid there may be some fluffing or shedding of loose fibres but this is perfectly normal.
Vacuum your carpet regularly. The grit in the pile can wear the fibres.
Blot spills straight away with kitchen roll or tissue. If it is a big spill, use a towel; stand on the towel to soak up as much moisture as possible.
Then spray the area with a suitable carpet cleaner, we recommend Scotchgard carpet and rug cleaner.

Choose the right carpet for the space
Top Tips when Buying a Carpet
Choose the right carpet for the space.
A carpet for the hall and stairs will need a harder wearing carpet than a bedroom.
Consider the overall colour scheme.
Does the carpet need to be neutral or texture to compliment the furnishings, or coloured or patterned carpet to add impact to your room? Spend as much as you can afford. Have a budget in mind.
Remember, the better the quality of carpet, the longer it will last and continue to look good. Don’t forget to include the cost of underlay and other materials.
Choose a colour scheme to compliment the decor
Get your room professionally measured. This will limit any wasteful mistakes.
If you are carpeting more than one room with the same carpet flooring, it may be more economical to have them done at the same time. For example, you may be able to do the stairs and have enough left to carpet another room. We can advise you with this.
Always have your carpet fitted professionally.
Professional fitters stretch the carpet to fit so that the pile is upright. This means the carpet will look at its best and increase its life by avoiding rucks and unequal wear.
